6 Summer Time Cooling Tips For People In Seattle

The temperatures that we have been experiencing this summer in Seattle have been nothing short of HOT! This is making it difficult for people to stay cool and comfortable, which is we are here to help.

By acquiring a few new habits and changing the environment of one’s home, it can help to beat the heat and still make for an enjoyable summer. The following are 5 tips about how to stay cool during this summer’s heat wave.

Here we go!

1. Eat Fresh and Cool Foods

Opt for cool and fresh snacks and meals that include yogurt, popsicles, iced tea, and chilled salads, which will feel better consuming when the weather is scorching. Avoid using the oven or stove to cook food, which can quickly release heat in the home and make it difficult to cool down again.

2. Keep Blinds Shut

By shutting the home’s blinds by 10 a.m. each morning, it will work to keep the heat out and prevent excess sunlight from causing the home’s temperatures to rise. Keep them shut until the evening time, and use light blocking curtains or shutters for extra measures on insulating the home.

3. Set the Thermostat

Instead of keeping the air conditioner on 24 hours a day, save money by setting the thermostat at 74 degrees and staying cool. 74 degrees is a comfortable setting for the home, but won’t cause your bill to shoot through the roof.

Replace the filter to ensure the AC works effectively and doesn’t contain fungus. Have an inspector evaluate your air conditioning to ensure it’s working properly and will make it through the summer without risk of breaking down.

4. Visit the Pool

Local pools, water parks, and even the sprinklers can make summer fun without feeling like you’re melting from the heat. Have fun like a child again by setting up a slip and slide in the yard for your family and even running through the sprinklers with your kids. Find a friend who has a pool or visit one in the area to stay cool and prevent heat stroke.

5. Replace Light bulbs

Old-fashioned incandescent light bulbs not only use more energy than newer bulbs, but also releasing 90 percent of its energy as heat and essentially pump that heat into the home. By opting for more energy-efficient light bulbs, you’ll not only reduce the cost of your electricity bill, but will also keep the home cooler. Energy-star qualified bulbs only release 15 percent of its energy as heat.

6. Wear sunglasses – you’ll at least look cooler

Well, there ya have it! If none of the above tips are working for you, you can always give your local Seattle air conditioning company a call to see how they can help. 🙂

“The team at Kings Heating is the one you hope for whenever you’re needing home services! The level of integrity and care they exhibit, unfortunately, seems to be existing less and less these days. Erin, Gary, Michaela, & Brent are nothing short of amazing! Please know that you’ll be in great hands whenever you’re working with Kings.”

“We had a great experience working with Kings Heating and AC! Front desk and technicians are both friendly, easy going, but professional, knowledgeable and fast. We had our furnace maintenance scheduled and inspected in no time, received notifications during the process and final invoice right after. Too easy! Highly recommended to use for any heating and AC work.”
